Joseph Christopher was born on 10 March 1840 in Killbuck Twp, Holmes, Ohio.

He was the son and fourth child of John Christopher and Susan Craig Christopher.

He married Susan (Susannah) Groff, daughter of Philip Groff and Elizabeth Fernsler, on 13 August 1863 in Holmes County, Ohio. She was born in May 1841 in Ohio.

Joseph died on 17 Mar 1915 in Killbuck, Holmes county, Ohio. He was buried in the Killbuck cemetery.

His wife, Susan, died on 23 Jun 1924 in Holmes, Ohio. She was buried beside her husband in the Killbuck cemetery.

He was farmer prior to enlistment, and returned to that when his enlistment was over.

Joseph Christopher served in Company B., The Color Company, 16th Regiment, Ohio Volunteer Infantry. He served honorably about 14 months being before being taken Prisoner of War on December 29, 1862 near Vicksburg, MS, at the Battle of Chickasaw Bayou. He was imprisoned for about 9 weeks, began his parole March 10, 1863 then was furloughed home, getting there about March 20 1863. He was home for about 7 months, then left October 20, 1863 to return to Louisiana, where he was exchanged at Algiers, LA on November 10 1863, rejoined his regiment, and served till he mustered out at Camp Chase, Ohio, Oct. 31, 1864.

Joseph is known to have been in attendance at the 38th reunion of the 16th OVI held at Loudonville, Ohio, September 17 & 18, 1913. He was probably in attendance at some of the others that were held close by, particularly those held at Wooster, Orrville, Ashland, and Millersburg, Ohio.

They were parents of the following children:

i. Effie F. Christopher was born on 03 Mar 1864 in Holmes County, Ohio. She died on 03 Feb 1953 in Mechanic township, Holmes, Ohio. She married (1) William Scarr. He was born on 23 Jun 1852 in Trail, Holmes Co., Ohio. He died on 20 Apr 1927 in Holmes County, Ohio. She married (2) Reason D. Jordan on 08 Feb 1884 in Holmes County, Ohio. He was born about 1863 in Ohio. He died on 18 Dec 1899 in Holmes County, Ohio.

ii. Niva Mary Christopher was born on 25 Jan 1866 in Killbuck township, Holmes County, Ohio. She died on 23 July 1939. She married Daniel Snyder Bilderback on 27 Sep 1885 in Holmes County, Ohio.

iii. Charles Curtis Christopher was born on 17 Oct 1868 in Killbuck, Holmes, Ohio. He died on 07 Sep 1946 in Killbuck, Holmes, Ohio. He married Sarah Alice "Sadie" Sees, daughter of George Washington Sees and Catherine Sees, on 21 Aug 1901 in Holmes County, Ohio. She was born on 28 Apr 1884 in Mill Creek, Coshocton, Ohio. She died on 07 Sep 1946 in Killbuck, Holmes, Ohio.

iv. Keturah Christopher was born in Sep 1875 in Ohio. She died on 13 Apr 1951 in Mechanic, Holmes, Ohio. She married Alvin R Gray, son of John C. Gray and Susan McKee, on 29 Nov 1893 in Holmes County, Ohio. He was born in Sep 1862 in Ohio. He died on 28 Jan 1947 in Millersburg, Holmes, Ohio.
