destroyed the other two got through but pretty badly shelled. the gun boats shelled the rebels at Carthage and drove them off. on the 18th we crossed the bayou and our regt lay on the levee all night. rained very hard.
19th Moved down below Carthage 5 miles to Perkins Plantation and camped here 10 days on the bank of the river.
29th Our Division (the 9th) Commanded by Brig Genl P. J. Osterhaus and Carr's Division Embarked on the transports and went down to Grand Gulf. landed 3 miles above at Hard Times Landing and marched down the Levee 5 miles below and while the Gun boats mombarded the rebel Forts the Transports run the past the town and joined the force below.
30th The troops all embarked again and crossed the river at Bruinsburg Miss. and after drawing
