Hall diary

where we disembarked and marched one mile east of the City and camped. had a very nice camp which was called Camp Oliver. good water was very scarce. had a Splendid drill ground which was put into constant use. had a grand review here by Genl. Sherman. we Staid here 23 days.
Dec 20th Genl. Geo. W. Morgans Division embarked on board steamers and started down the river where we were joined by two more Divisions at Helena, Arkansas, and proceeded down the river. arrived off Yazoo river on the 25th and on the 26th went up that river 12 miles and landed on the Vicksburg side of the river. had a little skirmish.
