but after staying here two hours we were ordered back to Portland where we arrived at 6 P.M. and bivoucked in the town for the night.
" 6th Moved our camp this morn at 10 Oclock and went about one mile north of town and camped in the woods on a rising piece of ground. we staid here 16 days. a number of our friends from Wooster came down to see us. we drew new clothing and got ourselves in good trim for the field again.
" 21st We left Portland at 7 A.M. and marched 12 miles and camp on the bank of a stream of clear cold water. drew new tents to night.
" 22nd Resumed our march at an eary hour this morning and went 15 miles. passed
