Despite Philip Kershner's prominent role as an officer in the 16th Ohio and successful business practices after the war in Detroit, Michigan, little information can be found on him. He was a businessman dealing in lumber and construction in Detroit and lived on and around Trumbell Avenue, downtown Detroit, but no other information can be found, including the location of his burial. This website will continue to look for more details on the 16th Ohio's commander.
