of the road is through the woods, it is very cool and nice marching
" 8th Marched 14 miles.
" 9th March 10 miles cross the state line at 9 A.M. amid the rousing cheers of the boys and the soul stiring music of fife and drum.
" 10th Marched about 8 miles to the foot of the mountain. found the road very much blockaded
" 11th We cut out the blockade and fixed the road and by dusk moved over the mountain into Powels Valley and camped in a grove on rolling ground. had splended Spring water. we staid here until the morning of the 18th. the enemy were in sight most every day. the ballance of the Division which went via
