FORAGING AND SKIRMISHING IN TAZEWELL- PRELUDE TO BATTLE

On this day the 16th Ohio, in brigade with the 42nd Ohio and 22nd Kentucky, was camped on and around a hill overlooking Tazewell, Tennessee. The 16th Ohio, upon arrival the previous afternoon, was placed on picket duty between the camp and the town, having two artillery pieces at their disposal. Sufficient information is not available to precisely identify the spot where this camp was made. It may have been just north of town or just to the east.

It was now Sunday and the first full day of foraging began, with quartermasters confiscating rebel horses around Tazewell. DeCourcy's brigade had 200 wagons to fill with supplies so much work remained to be done.
