the mountains abound in whortleberries and the valley in blackberries.
Jy July 26
The Brigade went on a foraging expedition to Tazewell Tennessee, a small town 13 miles southeast of the Gap. we got what we wanted and returned to Powells River on the 27th and on the 28th returned to camp.
Aug
2nd
Went on another expedition to Tazewell. got there about 4 P.M. drove in the rebel pickets and occupied their post ourselves. found an abundance of blackberries.
3rd 4th & 5th gathered forage through the country. had a skirmish on the 4th at Sycamore Springs.
" 6th Regt went on picket this morning and about 11 Oclock were attacked by a Superior force of the rebs
