SKIRMISHING WITH THE REBELS

On this day the greater portion of the 16th Ohio, part of a larger force of soldiers, continued their march from their camp on Morganza Bend, Louisiana, toward the Atchafalaya River.  Private Peter Shelley, Company I, tells us they arrived at the river about 4:00 a.m. and skirmished with the enemy nearly all day.

This period map shows a notional route the troops on the scouting mission may have taken from their camp at Morganza Bend, Louisiana, to the Atchafalaya River.  We will assume they marched west.
