A SCOUTING MISSION AND BUSHWHACKERS

On this day the regiment and other troops set out on a scouting mission at 5:00 am, heading west on the Baton Rouge road in Louisiana. The regiment travelled west 10 miles and rested until 4:00 pm at which time they resumed their march and went another 12 miles, setting up camp at 11:00 pm. Pvt. Robert Newt Gorsuch tells us troops in the (3rd) Division were fired upon (by Bushwhackers) after dark and that a Captain was killed and four other men wounded.
