CAMPING IN VICKSBURG

On this day the 16th Ohio remained camped near the Missississippi River, just a short distance from Vicksburg. Various records mention a very heavy rain and storm in the afternoon.

Records are unclear on exactly where the 16th Ohio camped during this time. Some say 1/2 mile down river or south of the city, others say 3/4 and some say 3/4 mile from the river itself. The webauthor has approximated a notional spot where the regiment may have camped, but believes it to be very close to the actual place.
