THE REGIMENT RESTS AT PORTLAND (OAK HILL), OHIO

On this day the 16th Ohio moved from their bivouac in Portland (Oak Hill), Ohio, one mile north of town and made camp at 10:00am in a wooded area. They would stay here for 16 days. Cpl. Warner Reid, Company B, tells us that during this time, many friends and relatives of the soldiers visited the Regiment. The were also provided with new clothing and were able to rest and recuperate.

The balance of Morgan's Division found camping places in the vicinity of Portland and Oak Hill, little towns situated close together.
