The plaque above commemorates the names of Union soldiers who were captured at the Battle of Chickasaw Bluffs, and a few from subsequent battles for Vicksburg, and who are buried in the Vicksburg National Cemetery. Research has provided additional information on 19 of the 44 soldiers listed on the plaque. This information is probable but not confirmed:
