List of Ordnance and Ordnance Stores
Lost By Company D In the Battle of Chickasaw Bayou
near Vicksburg, Mississippi
December 27-29, 1862
Web Author's Notes:

This document, written on simple, ruled paper, was a possession of Major Milton Mills and is a list of military ordnance Mills claims as having been lost at the Battle of Chickasaw Bayou, December 29th, 1862. Although then Captain Mills was captured at that battle, imprisoned for several months and did not return to his regiment until the following June, the government, apparently, aggressively pursued Mills to account for what was considered missing government property.

The actual date this document was prepared is unknown, but, since Milton Mills signs as formerly Capt, would have to be some time after he returned to the regiment in June, 1863, after being captured at the Battle of Chickasaw Bayou on December 29, 1862, and promoted to Major while a prisoner of war.
